Leyden Community High School District 212 students suspended 254 times in a single school year

Leyden Community High School District 212 reported 254 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 254 students during the year. That equates to 7.6 percent of the 3,321 students enrolled.

Of the 254 out-of-school suspensions, 201 were given to boys and 53 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 131 incidents. There were 57 incidents of drugs. For 89 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
