CITY OF LA SALLE: State police announce seat belt, nighttime patrols in August
City of Lasalle issued the following announcement on Aug. 7.
State police in La Salle announced occupant restraint enforcement patrols targeting seat belt violations will be held this month in La Salle County, as well as nighttime patrols targeting alcohol offenses.
Safety belts save nearly 14,000 lives each year.
Half of vehicle occupants killed in a traffic crash were not properly buckled up, state police said.Nighttime patrols target traffic violations between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. to target alcohol and drug impairment, which is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.
Over half of all fatal crashes in Illinois occur at night.
The project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
