How much has Elmwood Park CUSD 401 overspent over the past 10 years?

Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401 accumulated $16.58 million in debt between fiscal years 2008 and 2017, according to a West Cook News analysis of public schools data.

Spending and revenue data obtained for this analysis comes from the Illinois Local Education Agency Retrieval Network (ILEARN), which is part of the Illinois State Board of Education and collects data annually on school district financials.

Over the 10-year span, Elmwood Park CUSD 401 reported 19.8 percent more revenue. At the same time, total spending went up 25.5 percent. The resulting deficit grew by 629.1 percent from 2008 to 2017.
