How much has River Grove SD 85-5 overspent over the past 10 years?

River Grove School District 85-5 accumulated $4.86 million in debt between fiscal years 2008 and 2017, according to a West Cook News analysis of public schools data.

Spending and revenue data obtained for this analysis comes from the Illinois Local Education Agency Retrieval Network (ILEARN), which is part of the Illinois State Board of Education and collects data annually on school district financials.

Over the 10-year span, River Grove SD 85-5 reported 35 percent more revenue. At the same time, total spending went up 44.9 percent. The resulting deficit grew by 155 percent from 2008 to 2017.
