McCook FD responds to 35 fires in 2017

McCook Fire Department responded to 211 calls in 2017 - 1.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in McCook included 35 fires - 20 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and eight other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $384,000 in fire loss - or about $10,971 per fire.

The department also received 175 false calls, including one malicious call and 174 other false calls.

The Mccook Firefighters Pension Fund, which has one active employee and retired or inactive employee, was $5,469 in debt as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $144 for every fire in 2016.
