Leyden FPD responds to 52 fires in 2017

Leyden Fire Protection District responded to 211 calls in 2017 - 21.9 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Leyden included 52 fires - 28 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $13,750 in fire loss - or about $264 per fire.

The department also received 158 false calls, including five malicious calls and 153 other false calls.

The Leyden Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,705,282 in 2016.

The Leyden FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and 14 retired or inactive employees, was $606,792 in debt as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $8,794 for every fire in 2016.
