Proposed Resolution

Honoring The Columbian Club Of Chicago’s Charitable Foundation On The Occasion Of Its 30th Anniversary

Whereas, on January 13, 2018, the Columbian Club Charitable Foundation will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary at a dinner dance at Medinah Country Club; and

Whereas, on that evening the Columbian Club of Chicago will recognize those members who had the foresight to establish the Columbian Club Charitable Foundation as a fully tax-exempt, qualified charitable trust in 1988; and

Whereas, the Columbian Club of Chicago is an organization of Italian-American business and professional men and was conceived by Robert Tita (a U.S. postman) and Phillip C. Corrado (a CPA) in 1939; and

Whereas, to expand its charitable capacity and to extend the generosity of its members toward cultural grants and scholarships for deserving persons in the arts, professions, and other Chicago-area cultural disciplines, Columbian Club members Phillip C. Corrado, Jr. and Renato G. Turano formed the Charitable Foundation; and

Whereas, the incorporating trustees appointed as the foundation’s first board were: Philip C. Corrado, Jr., Ronald J. Giordano, Salvatore Scambiatierra, Renato G. Turano, Robert F. DiSilvestro, Robert A. Novelle, Fred Mazzei, Leonard J. Maniscalco, and Anthony B. Corrado; and

Whereas, together, this group of dedicated founding members and each of its successors have seen this foundation thrive over the past thirty years, providing educational scholarships to hundreds of college-bound students from the Chicagoland area; and

Whereas, in addition, the foundation has provided funding to many area charities, such as Misericordia, Casa Italia, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Good Shepherd Manor, Loyola University of Chicago’s Italian-American curriculum, and the Chicago Police Department Canine Unit’s Foundation to name a few.

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby honor the Columbian Club of Chicago’s Charitable Foundation as it celebrates its 30th Anniversary raising funds for those in need.

Be It Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be tendered to the Columbian Club Charitable Foundation in recognition of its commitment to serving the Italian-American community and beyond.
