Motorists and citizens concerned about a proposed changes to a project to add managed lanes on the Stevenson Expressway, Interstate 55, will be able to meet face-to-face and question Illinois Department of Transportation officials at a public hearing at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Toyota Park Stadium Club in Bridgeview.
IDOT said in a release that officials recently updated the plans for the managed lanes project to include a second leg in each direction of I-55 between Interstate 294 (Tri-State Tollway) near Burr Ridge and Interstate 90/94 (Dan Ryan Expressway) in Chicago.
Planners said the project it will create additional capacity, making it easier to maintain consistent, reliable speeds and travel times for travelers all along I-55, the release said.
The state previously received federal approval to build one managed lane in each direction of I-55 between Interstate 355 near Bolingbrook to I-90/94 in Chicago, and IDOT officials continue to pursue funding for the revised project, with a public-private partnership being among the considered options, the release said.
