Bellwood trustees approve real estate tax levy

The village of Bellwood Board of Trustees met Dec. 21 to approve a real estate tax levy.

Here is the meeting's agenda, as provided by the board:

Along with the mayor of Bellwood, the board of trustees acts as the village’s corporate authority and exercisse municipal powers that have not been specifically delegated to another office or board in the municipality. Bellwood’s six trustees form the legislative body. They are elected from the village at large to four-year terms.

The Village Board of the Village of Bellwood will conduct a regular board meeting on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the Village Board Room at 3200 Washington Boulevard, Bellwood, IL 60104-1984 for the purposes of considering the following agenda:

Item E - Effective January 1, 2017 local governments are required to adopt certain policies relative to the reimbursement of travel expenses to Village officials and employees,

Item H - The Village is required on an annual basis to establish and publish the meeting dates for the following year. The attached resolution establishes the 2017 meeting dates and times for the Regular Board Meeting which shall be held on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm and Committee of a Whole which shall be held on the second Monday of every month at 3:30 pm,

Item G - Employee filed suit before the Illinois Industrial Commission seeking recovery for benefits, losses and damages relating to an alleged injury suffered during the course of employment, the parties by and through counsel have reached an amicable resolution of the matter in the amount of $18,020.75,

Item A – The ordinance approves the real estate tax levy for 2016 collectable in 2017, the Village of Bellwood proposes no change in the Village tax levy from the previous year, therefore, resulting in no tax increase from the Village of Bellwood,

Item B - The ordinance abates certain amounts reducing the total amount of real estate taxes collectible in 2017,

Item I - The Resolution referenced herein allows for a Class 6b which grants the owner a reduction in real estate taxes for a thirteen-year period, Cook County provides municipalities with the ability to provide said real estate tax incentives in order to minimize the number of vacant, dilapidated and blighted property within their respective communities,

Item D - The ordinance requires employers to comply with all applicable federal and/or State laws and regulations as provided for in state and federal law and preempts any such regulations as set forth in Cook County ordinance,

Item F - The reports provide updates regarding pending litigation and revise the respective reserves, limits and costs pertaining to the respective claims and lawsuits,

Item L - The amendment to the employee handbook clarifies the village’s original intent regarding the payment of holiday pay relating to part-time employees,

Item C - The Village periodically updates its fleet of vehicles in order to continue to provide the necessary services to the residents of the community and as a result of which will be disposing of a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe which is no longer useful or necessary to the village,

Item J - The agreement engages Hackie Cement Corporation to remove and replace curb and sidewalk located at the Village Hall,

Item K - The agreement provides for the purchase of a 2016 Ford F-250 XL 4x2 Pick-Up Truck, Trackless Tractor and a 2016 Sewer Cleaner Vehicle for the Public Works Department to replace older outdated equipment,
