Through a series of town hall meetings starting in September, the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board of Education (BOE) and Superintendent Jesse Rodríguez will gather input from parents and others in the community on what they expect out of local schools.
Each session will be conducted in both English and Spanish, starting at 6:30 p.m. and running until 8 p.m., with plenty of time for informal questions and answers for parents and guardians of high school students to catch up on school district activity, news and plans. The schedule and locations are as follows: Thursday, Sept. 22, at Maywood Village Council Chambers, 125 South Fifth Avenue; Monday, Oct. 3, at Stone Park Village Hall, 1825 North 32nd Ave.; Thursday, Oct. 27, at Melrose Park Civic Center, 1000 North 25th Ave.; Monday, Nov. 14, at Hillside Elementary School, 4804 Harrison St., and Monday, Dec. 5, at Westchester Public Library, 10700 Canterbury St.

"Our schools are your schools, and we value all input from members of the community," Rodríguez said. "We welcome parents and other residents of our villages to dialogue with us the direction our schools should go."
Each town hall will have at least one BOE member in attendance. Additionally, future meetings are planned for the spring semester. BOE President Teresa McKelvy said it will be "a wonderful opportunity for our parents and community members to meet our new superintendent and collaborate with the Board of Education. We value your ideas, so come out and lend your voice to assist us in our efforts of being more inclusive."
