Cook County Board to review mixed-use plan for Old County Hospital site
The Cook County Board will review a presentation of a new mixed-use development project plan for Old County Hospital at its meeting today.
The project bid was won by Civic Health Development Group, which plans to invest approximately $600 million in housing, hotels, dining, pocket parks, retail stores, research facilities and other developments. The move is meant to jumpstart a wave of development in the surrounding area.
“This project creates and fosters true urban transformation in the heart of our county,” Board President Toni Preckwinkle said. “New residential, retail, office and hotel construction will create a vibrant mixed-use community enhancing the adjacent Illinois Medical District and Chicago’s near West Side.”
After the presentation to the board, the proposal is expected to be approved, then moved to the board's finance committee for evaluation.
If approved, the project is expected to begin construction next year.
