Cook County Board to review budget for planned Central Campus Health Center
The Cook County Board was expected to weigh in on the construction budget for the planned Central Campus Health Center outpatient facility at its meeting today.
The facility would be attached to Stroger Hospital and include a nine-story, 282,000-square-foot building that would consolidate services currently offered at three other buildings, reduce operating costs, and avoid capital improvements on old buildings.
The construction budget is estimated at $108.5 million, plus another $10 million for additional overhead costs.
“Building this new ambulatory-care facility is more than replacing old buildings,” Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said. “It is a transformative centerpiece for system-wide operational and programmatic reform. It will enable the health system to offer a modern patient experience that is competitive in contemporary health-care markets for years to come by providing facilities that match the first-rate care already available through the health system.”
If the board signs off on the proposal today, it will be forwarded to the Finance Committee before final board approval; construction would begin early next year, with completion expected by the middle of 2018.
