An 11:30 a.m. weekday meeting time became the focus of a recent Bellwood Public Library Board meeting when several attendees debated the wisdom of scheduling the special meeting in the middle of a workday.
Pastor Michael Horton and Dorothy Clarke-Smith, both trustees, questioned the scheduling of the meeting, calling it inconvenient, raising concerns about the meeting's purpose and questioning whether it warranted intrusion into trustees’ work schedules.
Horton said he took off work and suggested there was nothing pressing that warranted calling a special meeting during work hours.
The meeting began with a public-comment session.
Wanda Gibson distributed copies of her input, which included queries about expenditures on meetings and transportation, as well as travel reimbursements.
Linda Dupree expressed concern over a lack of raises for library staff in 2016.
Tai Lauren brought up the subject of community decline, indicating apprehension regarding Bellwood Library’s circumstances and health compared with other surrounding communities' libraries.
Deborah Giles questioned the sign-in policy, indicating that all meeting guests should sign in.
The board went into closed session to discuss any pressing sensitive personnel issues, including appointments, salaries, and/or other employee-related issues.
