Park District of Oak Park committee to review Austin Gardens master plan
The Park District of Oak Park (PDOP) Committee of the Whole will review its master plan for Austin Gardens and hear a presentation at its meeting immediately after the PDOP board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hedges Administrative Center, 218 Madison St. in Oak Park.
The 3.6-acre park land has been in the care of the park district since 1947, and since 1975, it has been used as a public theater venue.
In 2005, PDOP drafted a multi-phase master plan that began with simple improvements including new benches, landscaping, trash cans and electrical upgrades. The new Environmental Education Center, expected to open in June, marks the beginning of the plan's second phase, which also will include rain gardens, learning gardens and pathway improvements.
Board members said PDOP plans to continue to review and update its master plan for Austin Gardens in accordance with community feedback.
