At least 15 percent of its 21,914 employees serve in these secretarial roles, according to an analysis of employee records.
Cook County identifies 3,387 employees as “administrative assistants” or “clerks.” Their payroll amounted to $165,906,965 in 2014.
The average pay of these employees was $48,983, before taxpayer-funded pension contribution.
Thomas M. Sullivan, Raymond Schofield and Timnetra Burruss each earned $114,622 as administrative assistants to the Cook County Board of Review.
Frank D. Host of Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood earned $103,742 as an administrative assistant to State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
Mary Pat Cross of Wilmette earned $94,702 as an administrative assistant to Eileen Figel, deputy superintendent of the Cook County Forest Preserve.
Figel earns $155,172.
