The Riverside Township Food Pantry has announced an increase in the number of visits allowed for residents, moving from once a month to twice a month, with at least two weeks between each visit. Residents are encouraged to call 708-442-4400 to confirm their next eligible date.
Donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries, sauces, and seasonings are always accepted. Cash donations are also welcomed and checks should be made out to “Riverside Township Food Pantry.” The pantry asks donors to check expiration dates before donating items.
The food pantry is located at Riverside Township, 27 Riverside Road. It is operated by the Riverside Township and serves township residents who need food assistance. More information about hours and services can be found on the official website.
Guidelines for donations include providing at least two protein items such as canned meats or beans, two canned vegetables, two fruit items or packs, starches like pasta or rice (up to two items), and breakfast foods like cereal or energy bars. Appropriate sauces and seasonings that complement starches are also recommended. Canned soups may substitute for other proteins if they contain meat or fish; vegetable-based soups can replace starches or vegetables as needed.
Other accepted donations include toiletry items, toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, baby food, protein drinks, bottled juices, cake mixes, condiments, chips, candy and similar treats. These are placed on shelves for clients to take as needed when available.
While only township residents can receive tote bags of food from the main office at 27 Riverside Road, anyone may drop off donations at several locations: Riverside Township and Village Hall (27 Riverside Rd.), Riverside Public Library (1 Burling Rd.), Riverside Public Works Department (3860 Columbus Blvd.), Riverside Parks and Recreation facility (43 E. Quincy St.), and Riverside Foods (48 E. Burlington St.).
