River Forest District 90 is set to approve the resignation of Alison Hawley, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, according to a Nov. 20, board of education meeting agenda.

Hawley was hired by the district in 2016 after it developed and approved an equal outcome policy administrators described as “equity”, and based on “best practices” according to 2016 Board President Ralph Martire.

Details on associated curriculum changes were kept from residents amid early signs of academic decline.

Hawley was awarded a promotion in 2022 despite record-low test scores in English and math and a widening gap in achievement between black and white students.

Hawley’s introduction of a debunked reading and writing curriculum in River Forest may connect this resignation to an earlier forced resignation in Winnetka.

West Cook News reported Hawley was forced to resign from her previous curriculum chief job in Winnetka after her boss revealed she “concealed student performance data” from that community.

West Cook News reported Hawley hiring the same consultant to help formulate “a balanced approach to assessment” to share with River Forest residents.

Sarah Eckmann, District 90 Board Chair of Personnel wasn’t available for comment.
