Also on January 13, 2026, the department shared a public safety message about fire risks associated with heating equipment in winter: “One of the leading causes of home fires during the winter months is heating equipment, especially space heaters. The #OakPark Fire Department reminds residents to be cautious with alternative heat sources. All heaters need space. Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away”.

Heating equipment is a common cause of residential fires during colder months. Authorities often advise keeping flammable materials at least three feet away from heaters and using caution with alternative heat sources to reduce fire risk.
