Matt Odom has been named the new Director of Parks and Recreation for the Village of Brookfield, according to an announcement by Village Manager Tim Wiberg. Odom started his role on February 17, following a three-month search that drew nearly 40 applicants.
Odom joins Brookfield from the Warrenville Park District, where he was Superintendent of Recreation and Safety Manager since 2019. In Warrenville, he led the Recreation Department, managed a team including three full-time staff and about 30 part-time employees, and oversaw programming and special events across multiple facilities. He was also responsible for the department’s financial management and annual budgets.
Wiberg said in a statement, “On behalf of the Village, I am pleased to welcome Matt Odom as our new Director of Parks and Recreation. Matt brings 17 years of experience overseeing all aspects of recreation, and his passion for recreation and commitment to creating meaningful community experiences make him an outstanding addition to our team.
“We are confident that his proven leadership abilities and dedication to excellence will continue to strengthen and grow our Parks and Recreation Department for the benefit of our entire community.”
While at Warrenville Park District, Odom worked with staff to expand offerings in camps, gymnastics, early childhood programs, special events, and fitness activities. Before this position, he served as Recreation Program Manager at Vaughan Athletic Center within Fox Valley Park District. There he managed three full-time staff members and indirectly supervised about 40 part-time employees while administering a variety of programs such as camps, athletics, aquatics, early childhood activities, and special events.
Odom began his career in 2009 with Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department before moving on to become Adult Athletic Coordinator for Bolingbrook Park District. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University and a master’s degree in Sports Management from Northern Illinois University. He is also recognized as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
“I am truly honored to step into the role of Director of Parks and Recreation for the Village of Brookfield,” Odom said. “This opportunity represents both growth and purpose for me professionally, and I was drawn to the position because of the chance to make a broader impact in the community.”
