The Village of Riverside announced on Mar. 26 the formation of the Economic Development Commission (EDC), a group composed of residents from different backgrounds and industries who aim to encourage economic development in the community.
The EDC’s work is significant as it seeks to strengthen local businesses, improve commercial development, and enhance sales tax revenue for the village. The commission collaborates with both the Village and its residents to study retail activity and recommend plans that support business growth.
According to the announcement, “We seek also to be a resource to local business owners in working with the Village for the betterment of your business. We would like to assist residents in finding the right person or program to help answer questions or solve a problem.” The EDC is chaired by Larry Forssberg, with members Peter Boutsikakis, Paul MacNerland, Perry Montgomery, Arrick Pelton, Tom Orgler, and Sara Burcheri. Residents are encouraged to contact them or reach out through the Village office.
To foster communication between businesses and community leaders, the EDC is planning a series of Coffee Talk Updates. These sessions will connect businesses with commissioners and officials while sharing information about available resources and programs. Suggestions for topics can be submitted via email at edc@riverside.il.us.
