Cook County’s Department of Animal and Rabies Control is offering a spay and neuter discount program for residents throughout February, in recognition of National Spay and Neuter Awareness Month. Pet owners can receive up to $40 off the cost of spaying or neutering their dogs and cats at participating veterinarians from February 1 to 28.
The program does not require a coupon, but pet owners must live in Cook County to qualify. There is no limit on the number of pets per household that can receive the discount. Residents are advised to check with their veterinarian beforehand to ensure participation in the program.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, millions of companion animals enter shelters each year across the United States, with hundreds of thousands euthanized annually. The county’s initiative aims to help control the animal population and reduce unwanted litters by providing this annual discount.
“Residents who want to take advantage of the spay and neuter program should confirm that their veterinarian offers the discount before making an appointment. No coupon is required, but the pet owner must live in Cook County. The County covers up to $40 off spaying and neutering per pet with no limit on pets per household.”
More details about the program can be found at the county’s spay and neuter program page.
