The Cook County Treasurer’s Office has notified the Village of Brookfield that the 2025 first installment property tax bills will be mailed out later than usual. Instead of being sent at the beginning of February, taxpayers can expect to receive their physical bills on or before March 2. The office will make electronic versions available and begin accepting payments as soon as the bills are approved and sent to the print vendor. The payment deadline remains April 1.
According to the Treasurer’s Office, “tax revenue collected will be distributed to taxing bodies within 30 days of receipt.”
This announcement follows a significant delay last fall when the county sent out 2024 second installment property tax bills much later than scheduled. Those bills, typically mailed August 1 with a September 1 due date, were not sent until November 15 and were due December 15. Distribution of collected funds was also delayed; as of January 28, $1.25 billion had yet to be distributed to local taxing bodies.
The county has stated it will distribute all outstanding funds by February 3.
