Jesús “Chuy” García, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois’ 4th district since 2019, has shared several messages on social media reflecting on various topics of public interest and cultural significance. His recent posts address the passing of a former colleague, legislative priorities concerning social welfare programs, and a celebration of cultural heritage.

On March 3, 2025, Congressman García expressed his sorrow over the death of former Congressman Lincoln Díaz-Balart. In his message, he highlighted Díaz-Balart’s dedication to immigrant communities and his role as the author of significant legislation. “I’m saddened to hear of the passing of former Congressman Lincoln Díaz-Balart. He was a dedicated advocate for the immigrant community, and author of the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA). My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Later that day, García joined fellow Democrats in opposing proposed cuts to essential social welfare programs. On March 3, 2025, he tweeted about this collective stance against reductions in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits. “Today, more than 200 House Democrats share one voice and one message: No cuts to Social Security. No cuts to Medicare. No cuts to Medicaid.” He urged Republicans to prioritize working Americans over wealthy donors.

On March 4, 2025, García turned his attention towards cultural celebrations within Illinois by acknowledging Pączki Day and Fat Tuesday. He encouraged residents to partake in local traditions by visiting Polish bakeries for festive pastries.“Happy Pączki Day and Fat Tuesday Illinois! Don’t forget to stop by your local Polish bakery and enjoy some sweet pastries to celebrate the rich culture we have in our state!”
