Cicero, Illinois – The Cicero Police Department has announced an intensified traffic enforcement initiative for the Fourth of July weekend. This campaign will target impaired and unbuckled drivers from June 20 through the early hours of July 7, covering three summer weekends around Independence Day.
Superintendent Boyle stated, “It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink, use marijuana or other drugs.” He emphasized that officers would be on duty around the clock to prevent impaired driving and enforce traffic laws with the aim of saving lives.
The Cicero Police Department is collaborating with the Illinois State Police and over 200 local police and sheriff’s departments in this statewide effort. The enforcement is supported by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions for a safe holiday:
– Designate a sober driver before going out.
– Prevent friends or family members from driving under the influence.
– If impaired, use a taxi, mass transit, ride-sharing apps, or contact a sober friend or family member for a ride home.
– Utilize community designated driver programs.
– Report drunk drivers by safely pulling over and dialing 911.
– Ensure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt as it is both law and protection against impaired drivers.
This initiative runs alongside a media campaign reminding motorists that “It’s Not a Game” to drive impaired. Programs like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” are part of this effort.
