Village of Berkeley Village Board met Sept. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Lee calls the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Also present: Village Administrator Espiritu, Village Attorney Smith, Assistant Village Administrator Miller, Public Safety Director Larem, Public Works Director Wagner

4 Presentations and Appointment 

4.1 Proclamation Recognizing and Honoring the Public Service of Village Trustee Shafi Mohammed

President Lee reads Proclamation and thanks Trustee Mohammed for all his contributions and services provided. He will be resigning from his Trustee position.

4.2 Oaths of Office

4.2.1 Planning and Zoning Commissioner Gail Winfield-Congratulations! 4.2.2 Police Officer Francisco Meraz- Congratulations!

4.2.3 Police Officer Evan Trader- Congratulations!

4.2.4 Police Officer Lisa Brennan- Congratulations!

4.3 Life Saving Award – Police Officer Salvatore Palazzolo

Chief Larem along with Fraternal Order of Police presented Officer Palazzolo with a lifesaving award. While with the Phoenix Police Department, Officer Palazzolo was dispatched on a call on which he immediately provided CPR until the subject started breathing again, saving his life.

4.4 Age Options Report Presentation – Jacque Jones

Jacque Jones and team presented the Age Options report, asking for assistance on spreading information to seniors for services and programs offered in suburban Cook County.

9.2.5 Fiscal Year 23-24 1st Quarter Report

Administrator Espiritu gives 1st quarter report and points out property taxes have not been received. This has caused an imbalance between revenues and expenditures that will be rectified once property tax revenues are received.

9.3 Police and Property Maintenance (Chair – Trustee Mathews; Co-Chair Trustee Hammar) 

9.3.1 Trustee Liaison Report– School District

9.3.2 Monthly Report

Trustee Mathews reports data metrics looked pretty normal. Public Safety Director Larem reported Berkeley Police was given a couple accolades regarding recently assisting on a couple apprehensions.

9.4 Fire and Health (Chair – Trustee Salemi; Co-Chair Trustee Perez) 9.4.1 Trustee Liaison Report – Chamber of Commerce

9.4.2 Monthly Report

Trustee Salemi reports mutual aid given and received.

Public Works Director Wagner provided an update on a recent emergency road repair on Victoria Ave.

Trustee Perez Lions Club will be participating in the Autumnfest.

Neighborhood Watch is still in need of block captains. 

10 Village President 

10.1 Trustee Liaison Report – BerkHill Baseball

10.2 10/3/23 Village Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m.

President Lee reminds all about the Fall Fest on October 7th and 8th. He also states there will be a flag ceremony to retire the America flags turned in. There will be a block party on the 1400 block of Atwood 9/23 from 12-8p. All are welcomed. President Lee welcomes new businesses at the food court and also a new business that opened on Taft & St Charles.

11 Village Administrator-Assistance Administrator Miller talks about cyber security training efforts the Village has implemented.

12 Village Attorney-Village Attorney Smith reports no cash bail has gone into effect

Resident Graham received parking citation and questions if could have a hearing postponed
