Village of Berkeley Village Board met April 18

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Lee calls meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.  

2 Pledge of Allegiance  

3 Roll Call: Trustees Mohammed, Hammar, Salemi, Perez, Graf-Stone, Matthews, President  Lee, Clerk Nowak  

Also present: Village Administrator Espiritu, Village Attorney Smith, Assistant Village  Administrator Miller, Public Safety Director Larem, Public Works Director Wagner   

4 Presentations and Appointment  

4.1 Proclamation Recognizing and Congratulating Berkeley Resident Patty Asaro on  Being Honored for Her Service to the West Cook County Youth Club   President Lee presented and recognized longtime resident Patty Asaro with  proclamation. Sean Asaro, son of Patty and John will be honorary guest at the  2024 Memorial Day celebration. Sean attended West Point and served 12 years  in the military.   

4.2 Swearing in Police Officer Joseph Vikidel (postponed to next meeting)

7 Consent Agenda  

The matters listed for consideration on the Consent Agenda are routine in nature or have  all been discussed by the Board of Trustees previously and are matters on which there was  unanimity for placement on the Consent Agenda at this meeting.  

President Lee requested amendment on his report on the last sentence of the March 21  Board minutes, board agreed to amend the minutes to now read as follows: Fifty rose  bushes have been requested and will be planted to represent Berkeley as the rose town that  was proclaimed by the Village Board in 1956.

Trustee Graf-Stone highlights a few items the team is working on. Currently they are working on the board dais redesign, RFP’s for tree maintenance, food court and lastly generator project.   

9.1.3 Motion to Approve a Resolution of the Village of Berkeley, Cook  County, Illinois Approving and Authorizing the Purchase of HVAC   Equipment for the Village Hall Heating, Ventilation, and Air  Conditioning Project from Trane U.S., Inc. in an Amount Not to Exceed $50,970.00

Trustee Salemi states mutual aid given and received. Public Safety Director Larem states staffing is strong and waiting on a couple of grant  requests.   

9.5 Public Works and Utilities (Chair – Trustee Hammar; Co-Chair Trustee  Mohammed)  

9.5.1 Trustee Liaison Report  

9.5.2 Monthly Report  

Trustee Hammar states bids are being solicited for tree maintenance. Informs all that public works rented a grinder and worked on street repairs. Public Works Director Wagner states due to mild winter and the  salt purchase agreement there was a significant savings on road salt this winter.

9.6 Community and Intergovernmental Relations (Chair – Trustee Perez; Co Chair Trustee Graf-Stone)  

9.6.1 Trustee Liaison Report 

Trustee Perez states he is working on community sponsors for music in the park. President Lee introduces George Correa from American Legion Post from River Grove. He states Park District festival in Berkeley will be held 6/10/23 and is seeking police resources. Also informs all reenactment will be held once again in October.   

10 Village President  

10.1 5/2/23 Village Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m.   

President Lee wants to thank all the candidates that ran this election. All candidates  will be sworn in at the next board meeting. In celebration of the Berkeley Centennial, murals will be painted throughout the Village, the first being at LeDonne Hardware. Lots of committees being established for Centennial celebration and there is plenty of  room for volunteers if you haven’t signed up already. Kathleen Chmura is the  chairperson and Roger Thomas is co-chair. Berkeley’s 100th birthday is on May 20, 2024. As a reminder, Charles Pansino will be playing in the park on April 25, 2023  from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.  

11 Village Administrator  

11.1 Village Dais Replacement Project Update  

Assistant Administrator Miller presents the dais project overview and  timeline. Consensus from Board to consider putting the Village logo on both  the back wall and dais.  

12 Village Attorney  

Attorney Smith invites all Village elected officials and staff to the Elrod Friedman  biennial seminar on 5/12/23. Informs all General Assembly is in session and states there  is a possibility of increased revenues with the two bills that are on the table regarding  local government distributive fund (LGDF).
