Two West Cook County organizations are to benefit from a $19.7 million grant program that Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently announced.

Illinois Public Museum Capital Grants, funded by the Rebuild Illinois program, are being awarded to 36 organizations across the state, two of which are in West Cook County.

"Rebuilding Illinois means investing in all types of infrastructure that improve communities and the quality of life for local residents. That includes an investment in the museums that protect our cultural heritage and offer unique programs and events for visitors to enjoy. I am pleased to see the array of improvements and exhibits that will happen as a result of our 2022 Public Museum Capital Grants, made possible through the Rebuild Illinois capital program," Pritzker said a statement.

Pritzker announced on March 9 that 36 museums across the state are being awarded a total of $19.7 million in grants to be used for improving facilities and developing exhibits, according to a press release from the governor's office. The Illinois Public Museum Capital Grants Program is funded by the Rebuild Illinois capital program. The following organizations in West Cook County are grant recipients: Chicago Zoological Society, Seven Seas roof replacement - $666,600; and Garfield Park Conservatory, Child Wild Nature Exploration Garden - $749,500.

Pritzker signed Rebuild Illinois into law in June 2019. It aims to tackle infrastructure improvements from transportation to school facilities, according to the Illinois Economic Policy Institute.

The Garfield Park Conservatory is one of the largest botanical conservatories in the country, home to thousands of plant species situated in indoor and outdoor gardens.

The Chicago Zoological Society operates Brookfield Zoo, which is home to exhibits including Dolphins in Action, Hamill Family Wild Encounters, Motor Safari, and a butterfly exhibit.
