Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch (D-Hillside) is the Committee Chairman overseeing the investigation into ComEd matters.

Welch scheduled a Dec. 14 meeting to discuss newly a trove of emails and other documents purportedly linking House Speaker Michael Madigan to a bribery scheme with ComEd.

Madigan is currently under federal investigation for the matter and is being challenged to give up both the Chairmanship of the Democratic Party and his post as Speaker of the House.

A woman called the Village of Hillside Police in 2012 to report that Welch had “grabbed her hair with both hands while in the kitchen and proceeded to slam her head backwards several times on the countertop.”

According to the report, Welch reportedly became enraged when the woman, who stated that she was no longer in a relationship with him, attempted to retrieve some of her belongings.

Welch was arrested for alleged domestic battery but later released from custody after the victim opted not to file a complaint.

Reporter Bill Dwyer filed a Freedom of Information request with the Village of Hillside but his request was unjustly denied, according to West Cook News.

Welch was first elected to the House in 2012 to represent parts of River Forest, Forest

Park, Maywood, Broadview, Bellwood, Hillside, Westchester and La Grange Park.
