Forest Park FD responds to 58 fires in 2017

Forest Park Fire Department responded to 210 calls in 2017 - 6.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Forest Park included 58 fires - 42 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and nine other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $737,100 in fire loss - or about $12,709 per fire.

The department also received 149 false calls, including five malicious calls and 144 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Forest Park Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 23 active employees and 31 retired or inactive employees, was $1,831,242 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $31,573 for every fire in 2016.
