Schiller Park FD responds to 17 fires in 2017

Schiller Park Fire Department responded to 123 calls in 2017 - 51.8 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Schiller Park included 17 fires - 10 structure fires, two vehicle fires and five other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $431,800 in fire loss - or about $25,400 per fire.

The department also received 105 false calls, including two malicious calls and 103 other false calls.

The Schiller Park Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 27 active employees and 29 retired or inactive employees, was $1,182,709 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $43,804 for every fire in 2016.
