Northlake FPD responds to 33 fires in 2016

Northlake Fire Protection District responded to 209 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Cook News.

The calls in Northlake included 33 fires - 18 structure fires, five vehicle fires and nine other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $273,800 in fire loss - or about $8,297 per fire.

The department also received 176 false calls, including five malicious calls and 171 other false calls.

The Northlake FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 17 active employees and 18 retired or inactive employees, was $798,025 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $24,183 for every fire in 2016.
