Schiller Park Historical Society met April 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the Historical Society:

Commissioners Present: Bonnie Gardeck, Dan Sliwicki, June Oulund, Warren Schuhrke, Hilde Kilian

Absent: Diana Caffero, Cecelia Engelman

Library Representative: Tina Setzer

Curator: Katlyn Froslan

Guests and Volunteers: Russ Klug, Marilyn Golden, Dan Melone, Ron Marchand

Meeting called to order by Dan at 10:02 am. Pledge of Allegiance was said. Motion made by June seconded by Warren to accept March minutes. Motion carried unanimously.

Library Representative: First graders from Kennedy have not given us a date for their visit, we are still waiting? New Library sign will include the Historical Society’s name.

Financial Report: As of March 31, 2017 the amount in our checking account was $4391.13. We received $71.19 in donations and book sales at the Open House. Our cash on hand is $128.25 no bills outstanding. Motion made by Hilde seconded by Warren to accept financial report. Motion carried unanimously.

Communications: Thank you letters were sent to Library, Louise, East Leyden. Another letter sent to East Leyden Drama Club for student volunteers for Cemetery Walk.

Curator’s Report: Interviews to be transcribed are being sent to Denise Fleischer. Kyle knows the procedure and is working out very well.

Committee Report: June made a motion, Bonnie seconded it: To keep the present officers in their same position for this year. Vote taken: June Yes, Warren Yes, Bonnie Yes, Hilde Yes.

Vision Statement, Mission Statement, By-Laws: Motion made by June seconded by Warren to accept Vision Statement, Mission Statement, Bylaws that were worked on and discussed previously. Vote taken: June Yes, Warren Yes, Bonnie Yes, Hilde Yes.

Open House Evaluation: This was our best attended function. We had 100 signed in, but around 200 people were present through-out the afternoon. The back drops from the Leyden High School students was appreciated. Louise Bartnicki genealogy table was excellent in finding information for our guests. The set up for Buzz and Dan’s display will be altered, too many people in one area and the sound quality has to be improved.

Cemetery Walk: June has made contact with Victor Palola, head of the Drama Department at East Leyden, he will supply us with the students and costumes. June needs 21 students and also insurance coverage has to be looked into. June is presently altering the script we have been using in the past. Date for the Walk is June 17, 2017. (Students need service hours.)

Wall of Honor: We have 4 new inductees. June is happy with the new information sheet that was included in the flyer.

We still have money in our budget. We will investigate the cost of a laser printer and a cart.

Motion made to adjourn the meeting at 11:09 by Warren, seconded by Hilde. Vote unanimous.
