School District 209 hosts town hall meeting at Berkeley's public library

Hs 06

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board of Education Superintendent Dr. Jesse Rodriguez hosted a town hall meeting in Berkeley Jan. 12 at the public library, 1637 N. Taft Ave.

A series of town hall meetings, each from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., spans the 10 villages within the school district. Parents and residents of each village can ask questions and learn more about the district's plans.

"Our schools are your schools, and we value all input from members of the community," Rodriguez said. "We welcome parents and other residents of our villages to dialogue with us on the direction our schools should go."

Besides the meeting last week, two more meetings are left this semester. The remaining meet-ups are Jan. 24 at Forest Park Village Hall, 517 Des Plaines Ave., and Feb. 9 at Northlake Public Library, 231 N. Wolf St.

"We value your ideas, so come out and lend your voice to assist us in our efforts of being more inclusive," said Teresa McKelvy, president at the board of education.

She also mentioned the meeting as a chance to meet the new superintendent.

All meetings are held in both English and Spanish. Future meetings for other villages are being planned.
