Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 57.0 percent of Proviso West High School's (PWHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.

The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.

For PWHS, its college enrollment rate marks a decline since 2014, when 58.0 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.

The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.

Enrollment at PWHS in 2015 was 2,101; 405 (19.28 percent) were seniors.

ISBE also said 14.4 percent of PWHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.

All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."

PWHS students did better on math (12.0 percent) and English (36.0 percent) and worse on science (8.6) and reading (11.4).

Only 2.6 percent of PWHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
