Harris falls short in Democratic primary race

In the March 15 Illinois House Democratic primary for District 7, candidate Chris Harris lost to incumbent Emanuel “Chris” Welch. A total of 27,116 votes were cast in Cook County. Welch claimed 65.63 percent of the votes --  receiving 17,795 votes, while Harris received 9,321 votes (34.37 percent).

In the Presidential Republican primary, Donald Trump emerged ahead of the pack among Cook County voters, claiming 41.53 percent of the votes. On the Democratic side, 53.52 percent of  county voters supported Hillary Clinton, while 45.85 percent voted for  Bernie Sanders.

In the Congressional Republican race, Jimmy Lee Tillman, II  lost to August Deuser among county voters. On the Democratic side Bobby Rush  took the lead with 21,625 votes over O. Patrick Brutus, who received 6,797 votes, and Howard B. Brookins, Jr., who received 5,742 votes.
